Gianyar is a regency (kabupaten) in the Indonesian province and island of Bali, Indonesia. It has an area of 368 km2 and population of 470,380, making it the second most densely populated district in Bali (after Badung). Its regency seat is Gianyar. Gianyar is located about 33 kilometers or about one hours drive from the Ngurah Rai International Airport. Gianyar is also a center for native Balinese weaving and has several jeweler's shops selling traditional gold jeweler's. In Gianyar town, there is a palace, Puri Gianyar, built in 19th century. Puri Gianyar is one of the few traditional Balinese palaces still in existence and one of the only ones still lived in by a royal family. Puri Gianyars spacious courtyards are decorated with beautiful examples of stonework and carved wood pillars.
